Council Charter

The basis for all groups is a their Constitution and Bylaws. As they grow and assemble elsewhere their smaller groups are given a Charter. We were granted a Charter by the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council to form a Council in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on June 17th, 1992.

Thirty-nine Knights of Columbus and candidates assembled in the St. Thomas More Catholic School Gym to receive their charter and to welcome candidates as Sir Knights. Many of the Charter Knights have passed away, but some are still with us. They have helped our Council grow and serve the Chapel Hill community for thirty years. Their names include Juan Alva, Lee Heavlin, Daniel Chegash, Uldarico Datiles, John Felten, Paul Fiorentino, Andrew Melvin, Gil Montoya, James Merkel, and Don Smith.

Below is the image of our original charter and larger .pdf file. You print the .pdf to read the complete list of the first members. Family members are welcome to download a copy for their family histories. We are proud of our Charter Members and we are equally proud of the hundred plus new members who join us over our first thirty years.

If you would like to learn more about the Chapel Hill Knights, let us know or connect with a member after Mass. They will be glad to share our story and assist you with gaining membership.
