Grand Knight’s Message

Bill Jackson

It is a pleasure to serve as your Grand Knight. I’m confident that we can find ways to grow, serve our community, and make a difference in The Catholic Community of St. Thomas More.

Remember we are linked by a common goal, to love and serve the Lord.

We may be in a lockdown mode, but there is much for us to do.

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and healthy! Despite the Covid-19 Pandemic it has been a busy few months for our Council. Since the beginning of our Fraternal Year we have continued to have our monthly business and planning meetings via ZOOM. We have conducted three joint fundraisers with local businesses. Our most recent event at Duck Donut netted the Council, $40.00. Many thanks to all Brother Knights that organized the events, volunteered their time and efforts, and purchased items from the various businesses.

We also held a Novena for nine days via ZOOM to honor the Beatification of Father Michael J. McGivney, the Founder of the Knights of Columbus. The beatification took place on Saturday October 31, 2020. The Novena was open to all Knights and Parishioners of St. Thomas More. Many thanks to our Worthy District Deputy, PGK, and current Deputy Grand Knight, Chris Kremer for leading the Novena each night.

We have also recognized a Brother Knight for Knight of the Month each month since the beginning of the fraternal year. Brothers that were recognized since July 1, 2020 included James Davisson, James Ferris, Bruce Jackson, and William Ellingsworth. The Council also recognized the Heavlin Family, Lee and Yoli, for Family of the Month in July.

As we enter the season of Advent, we have several other events scheduled. Brother Bryan Feger, our Family Director and Brother Charles Jenkins, our Faith Director have organized a Family Prayer and Adoration Night on Wednesday December 16 starting at 6:30pm. This event is being coordinated with Father Scott and Deacon Bob Troy at St. Thomas More. The Family Prayer and Adoration Night will take place instead of the Council’s Business Meeting for December. I hope that all of you and your families will be able to attend this event. More details will be provided as we get closer to the event date.

We also have one more Fundraiser scheduled this half of the Fraternal Year. On Wednesday December 2, Council 10910 will host a joint event with Brixx Pizza in Meadowmont for a fundraiser to assist the Council with it’s charity support.

We are also in the middle of a membership drive for new Knights. In honor of the beatification of Father Michael McGivney, Supreme has extended the free one-year membership promotion until December 31, 2020. Please reach out and try to recruit a new member while this promotion is being offered.

Council 10910 also recognized seminarian Erik Reyes and provided Erik with a donation of $500 through the RSVP Program for Seminarians.

The Council was also able to provide Father Scott with a donation of $500 towards the upgrade of the Church’s audio/video equipment. These funds would have been in support of the Christmas books that have normally been supported for in the past but the Church has another donor for this year.

As we finish the first half of this fraternal year, you will start to receive notices for the completion of the Fraternal Activity Report and also for dues for the upcoming fraternal year.

Finally, I look forward to the day when we can all meet safely and hold events that brings us all together as brothers and as a family.

Vivat Jesus!
